Michael Scott Terry was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in September 1964. He attended Cardinal Gibbons High School and graduated in 1983. He attended and graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1989 with dual degrees in Political Science and History. Thereafter, he attended and graduated from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland and graduated with a Masters Degree in Philosophy in 1990. In 1991, he enrolled at Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio and graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1994.

Mr. Terry was employed as a litigation paralegal between 1995 and 2008 during which time he worked for both plaintiff and defense firms in practice areas which included insurance bad faith, bodily injury, subrogation, transactional law, surety and bond law, labor law and construction defect(s). In 2009 he was admitted to practice in the State of Nevada. Mr. Terry is married and has two young children.
